River Finn

The River Finn is one of the best salmon rivers in Europe. The season opens on March 1st and from then until May there are spring salmon generally in the range of 8-12lb. Some grilse will start to appear in May but the main run is in June through to July with another run of salmon in late August to the end of the season on September 15th.

Drumboe Wood

Drumboe Wood offers a relaxing riverside walk, on which you pass the ruins of the old Drumboe Castle. Coillte, the national forestry authority, have taken great care of this beautiful natural amenity.

The Twin Towns of Ballybofey and Stranorlar are situated on either side of the River Finn in east Co. Donegal on the busy N15. The towns are an ideal touring base with excellent golfing, fishing and shopping locally.

Ballybofey is historically a market town and is home to the multi award winning McElhinney’s Department Store, Irelands Store of the Year 2012. Ballybofey has the distinction of being the only large town in the North West of Ireland that has neither a school nor a Church.

Stranorlar, whose origins date back to 1610, is home to two national schools, two second level colleges and four Churches, the Finn Valley Athletic Centre and the beautiful and historical Drumboe Wood.

There are many excellent pubs with traditional sessions and nightlife. Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey is reputed to be the home of Irish Coffee!
